FANCY a home among the gum trees? Prefer the sound of birds tweeting and trees rustling over horns honking and distorted bass beats?
If so you’re not alone.
A growing number of Gold Coast mums and dads and Sydney-based buyers are swapping the sea change for the tree change, says DJ Stringer Property Services principal David Stringer, with southern hot spots such as Tallebudgera, Currumbin and the Tweed Hinterland regions leading the charge.
So what is it about that patch of green paradise that’s got buyers charging for a few acres and a backyard so big you can host a soccer match?
Mr Stringer said it was simply the idyllic country lifestyle that was nevertheless five minutes from the city fringe as well as the great value for money the Coast’s acreage homes are offering .
“There has been a notable trend away from seaside living and towards the acreage lifestyle. Buyers are seeing the value in owning sprawling properties … they get more land for their dollar and generally speaking, properties are more spacious,” he said.
“Prices in the region are still relatively low but the market is showing the early signs of an upturn as confidence returns to the market for the first time in years.”
So what are the ingredients for a post-card worthy country paradise? If you take a squiz at some of the Coast’s best high-end hinterland and acreage properties it’s all about the sweeping valley views, a hint of twinkling Gold Coast lights in the far distance and sweeping decks that give off the “Secret Garden” ambience.
Mr Stringer said a cosy fireplace in a snug and charming lounge room or media room was always a bonus, but said usable land (that wasn’t covered in trees) was the real clincher for many buyers.
