TALLEBUDGERA Surf Life Saving Club is about to undergo a $3 million redevelopment to help cater for its growing membership.
In its 70th year, the club is planning a refit that will open it to ocean views and give lifesavers and nippers more room for equipment.
The latest additions are expected to be completed next year, pending approval from Gold Coast City Council.
Club president Mark Willoughby said the facelift aimed to accommodate the club’s growing membership of 6500 for at least the next decade.
“It’s not big enough to hold the members we’re attracting,” Mr Willoughby said.
“We’re being inundated with them.
“It has been in the back of our minds for a little while. We would prefer to get something done by next year.”
Mr Willoughby said Club Talle, as it’s more commonly known, was last upgraded in 2007 with a first aid room and more space for lifesaving equipment.
Mr Willoughby said to building would not be going higher.
“We’re hoping for a more open-plan club, that’s what’s been suggested to us,” he said.
Community feedback closes on August 22.
Area councillor Daphne McDonald said she did not want to comment on proposal because it was too early in the approval process.
The redevelopment comes as part of a transformation of the coast south of Burleigh.
Developer Sunland bought the Palm Beach Mobile and Tourist Park for $18.4 million last year which is currently being redeveloped.
